AMI Technician I

BrightRidge has an opening for an AMI Technician I. 

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the timely completion of service orders and routine/emergency AMI system maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Complete assigned service orders through Mobile Workforce or paper orders, as necessary.

• Investigate the root cause of low/no usage meters. Exchange meters in the field that have demonstrated mechanical failure or issues in communicating with the AMI system. Complete annual visual inspections of metered locations. Perform manual reading checks on meters to ensure they are reporting correct usage.

• Install and remove direct load control devices and respond to trouble calls. Troubleshoot and replace defective water heater thermostats and elements for direct load control customers.

• Perform monthly AMI site inspections

• Replace Sharkfins and IP collectors as directed

• Perform Disconnect and Reconnect orders as directed

• Return all meters removed from the field to the Meter Shop for testing

• Document and report broken meter seals or other signs of theft or tampering

• Use the TUNet system to investigate meters not communicating, place meters in/out of service, and monitor the health of the system

• Interact with customers in a manner which positively represents BrightRidge

• Ability to maintain reliable, predictable, and reasonable attendance

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participate in continuing education thru meetings, seminars, schools, or training, etc., as determined by Supervisor or as required by law

• Must maintain a valid driver’s license from the state of residence

• Perform other duties as requested or assigned

• Adhere to BrightRidge safety guidelines and best practices for performing work

• Maintain proper care of assigned fleet vehicle and all tools and equipment

• Must be available for after-hours work which would include working fair share of all necessary overtime

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal (other employees) and external (contractors, vendors other utilities, etc.) customers

• Ability to identify different types of meters and related equipment

• Must possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

• Must be able to operate a multimeter

• Must be able to work independently and complete assigned tasks timely

• Must possess P/C skills and experience with Windows-based programs

• Ability to use NISC software including CIS, ABS, and MDM

• Ability to use the Tantalus TeamRoom and TUNet systems

• Must display a high degree of honesty, loyalty, and integrity

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires outside work in adverse weather conditions and the ability to ambulate on uneven terrain with exposure to dirt and dust. May be exposed to insects and animals such as dogs. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds (propane tanks) and have a maximum push force of 30 pounds and maximum pull force of 20 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires driving several hours a day. Requires constant handling, vision, depth perception, and frequent fine manipulation, sitting, reaching, and static position of the head/neck. Requires frequent arm/hand, leg/foot, and simple grasp for machine control operation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Experience with fieldwork in an electric utility or similar industry preferred
