BrightRidge has openings for two Power Equipment Technicians.
JOB SUMMARY:
Individual will be responsible for performing reliability testing, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs on power distribution systems and equipment including low, medium and high voltage systems in such a manner as to ensure optimal system reliability. Will work and train with the Power Equipment Technician and others in order to learn and become proficient at all aspects of the job.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in performing electrical tests and repairs related to maintenance and performance evaluation of protective relays to prevent and remedy abnormal behavior or failure of transmission and distribution lines and equipment: Connects test apparatus to troubled circuit.
- Assists in testing circuit and equipment to evaluate such factors as timing and coordination, which affect function of relays.
- Learn how to read and understand electrical schematics with ability to troubleshoot equipment and systems.
- Performs work on high voltage energized and de-energized equipment
- Assists with maintaining equipment service records and keeps all drawings and documentation updated.
- Assists in complex electrical calculations as required to set and program protective relays, SCADA, and metering systems.
- Assist in Modifies schematics and wiring diagrams for basic equipment and operational upgrades.
- Stays abreast of new materials, equipment and engineering designs of electrical facilities.
- Ability to maintain reliable, predictable and reasonable attendance.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must maintain a valid drivers’ license from state of residence.
- Maintain assigned vehicle.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
- Must be available for after hours work which would include working fair share of all necessary overtime.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must have the ability and skill to obtain knowledge of principles and application of protective relays. This includes overcurrent relay, transmission and distribution relaying. Must have the ability to work with electro-mechanical and microprocessor based relaying and metering.
- Must have the ability to obtain knowledge of power system operation, system restoration.
- Must have a working knowledge of HV electrical equipment & relay controls such as breakers, transformers, over current and differential relays, etc.
- Must be able to acquire working knowledge of applicable HV & Relay safe work practices and standards.
- Must possess effective written & oral communication skills. Good interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to obtain working knowledge of the transmission, and distribution systems, stations and equipment and associated safety policies, practices, and procedures.
- Must be willing and able to participate in any necessary continuing education.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires strenuous physical activity. Job requires constant vision and depth perception and frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, handling, and pick/pinch. Must be able to lift 95 lbs. Must be able to carry, erect and climb an extension ladder. Must not have a fear of heights. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must have good ambulation for varying terrains. Must have good grip strength and manual dexterity. Must be able to produce varying amounts of push/pull force.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Both inside and outside working conditions. Sometimes in inclement weather. Subject to call out during power outages and emergencies. Also must be available for after hours, weekend and holiday scheduled work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates (2 year) Degree in a Mathematics or Technically based field of study is preferred.
- Work experience related to the field of substation relays will be considered a plus.
- Must pass a color blindness screening.
- Must be able to use Microsoft and have excellent PC skills.
