Job Summary: The applicant helps coordinate the Meridian community based anti-drug programs that utilizes local resources to proactively respond to the issue of substance abuse within the City of Meridian. This position will require strong customer service skills, marketing experience, and an ability to relate and communicate well with the public. Performs work with Federal, State, City, local Police Departments and the Meridian Anti-Drug Coalition (MADC). This is a non-sworn position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Coordinate the substance abuse prevention / education programs within the City of Meridian; Works alongside the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition Director as a team to tackle everything from day to day activities or upcoming events and challenges; To act as a representative of the City of Meridian and the Police Department in developing partnerships with other Treasure Valley drug prevention / education programs and entities; Facilitates and/or conducts training in the areas of substance abuse prevention / education as requested by local businesses, citizens and community groups; Helps produce drug prevention education materials for a variety of media outlets including social, print and broadcast; Market substance abuse prevention / education programs and strategies within the community; Constant ability to communicate logically and clearly, both orally and in writing; Must display an attitude of cooperation, positivity and the ability to work well with others; Excellent telephone etiquette skills; Ability to demonstrate politeness, sympathy and respect in dealing with citizen and/or city staff; Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
Job Specifications: Must have a minimum of 60 semester credits from an accredited university or college, preferred Associate’s Degree (AA) in the social sciences or criminal justice; At least one (1) year prior experience in local government in the area of law enforcement prevention or outreach; 2 At least one (1) year prior customer service experience; Or any combination of education and experience to perform the essential job duties. Must successfully complete a background investigation and polygraph exam.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher); Laws/Law Enforcement Procedures; Crime Prevention and Community Policing (Understanding of dynamics involved and problem solving); Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; Must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people; Knowledge in substance abuse education; Knowledge in substance abuse program implementation. Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, work is performed inside and outside the office. The noise level in the office is at a moderate level, while that outside is sometimes loud. The environment indoors is subject to inside environmental temperature change conditions, while the outside is subject to varying out-of-doors weather conditions: Constantly requires sitting at a desk for long periods of time, up to 6 hours and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively with the public and other department members; Constantly requires clear vision to read printed materials and computer screen to accomplish work; Constantly requires repetitive movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; Constantly requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permit the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks; Occasionally requires performance of duties away from the office that may require the transport, carrying, setting up, and taking down of: tables, information panels, educational/promotional materials and brochures; Requires frequent driving, personal mobility and physical reflexes which allow the employees to operate a motor vehicle.
Travel Requirements: Local travel is occasionally required; Some in state and out of state travel may be required for training.
