Police Officer 2
Position Summary
Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Police, the Police Officer 2 serves as first responder, investigator, and law enforcement officer for all campus locations. They manage criminal and non-criminal investigations, records, parking, traffic services, safety, and security for the College.

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Education – High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to become Police Officers Standards and Training Commission (P.O.S.T.) certified per T.C.A. 38-8-107, or its equivalency, within 6 months from hire date.
- Must be physically, morally, and psychologically fit to meet the requirements of a Peace Officer in the state of Tennessee.
- Must pass a written aptitude test and a physical fitness test
- Experience - Law enforcement experience and/or campus police experience preferred
- Technology Skills: MS Office skills, Word, Excel, Access; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems

- Ability to react and lead in a high stress environment.
- Ability to write effectively.
- Ability to operate law enforcement equipment.
- Knowledge of computer equipment and software to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and various record management systems.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws as it pertains to campus policing.
- Basic knowledge of accident investigation as it pertains to applicable state and federal laws.
Specific Role and Responsibilities
- Protect life and property at all campus locations.
- Conduct criminal investigations from start to conclusion.
- Provide a law enforcement response to emergency situations.
- Conduct non-criminal investigations.
- Conduct safety and Illness/Injury investigations.
- Prepare criminal and non-criminal reports for review by college leadership as well as outside agencies.
- Provide a professional law enforcement response to any emergency situation in accordance with training and applicable federal and state laws.
- Must interpret and implement federal law as it pertains to colleges and universities. Interpret and enforce state law.
- Apprehend criminal offenders.
- Enforce state laws and Tennessee Board or Regents/Northeast State Community College policies.
- Testify in state level courts and administrative hearings.
- Conduct regular equipment, facility, and safety checks.
- Enforce parking regulations.
- Monitor parking and provide traffic services.
- Provide escort and vehicle assistance services.
- Critical tasks performed include typing and data entry processing.
- Positively interact with the public.
- Other duties as assigned by the chief of Police/deputy chief of Police.
General Employee Responsibilities
- Comply with local, state, and federal guidelines and laws.
- Comply with Northeast State Community College and Tennessee Board of Regents policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Comply with SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges), Principles of Accreditation, standards and guidelines.
- Promote and maintain College and TBR Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Promote and comply with Northeast State Community College SAFE Campus programs.
- Maintain digital calendar and archive annually on June 30. Provide supervisor with access to calendar and an archived copy of calendar for annual performance review.
- Seek efficiencies and continuous improvement in both position and personal growth.
- Lead/promote College and TBR initiatives as they relate to this office.
- In all duties assigned, show a commitment to quality, customer service, and Northeast State Community College: to include students, College employees, and the community served by Northeast State. Be an active and contributing part of the Northeast State Team.
- Follow professional code of conduct and ethics; maintain professional dress in compliance with expectations of the position.
- Complete other assignments as directed by supervisor/President.
- Utilize effective people skills in working with internal and external customers.
Additional Notes
- Associate level degree or beyond preferred.
- Law enforcement experience and/or campus police experience preferred.
- Must be willing to work different shifts, holidays, and multiple locations, if needed.
- Attend additional training as directed by the chief of police/deputy chief.
Compensation: $34,234 - $41,079 annual salary dependent on education and experience.
