Old Dominion Power is seeking an entry level Electrical Engineer at our Norton, VA Operations Center. This individual will work directly with supervisors and management; performing a variety of tasks that have specific instructions and expected results. The Electrical Engineer will provide engineering and technical support, oversight and direction related to system reliability. Along with responsibility for the engineering planning and design of electric distribution system expansion and maintenance.
JOB DUTIES:
Independently design, estimate costs, secure easements, size equipment and coordinate through construction for overhead and underground electric facilities to serve industrial, commercial and residential customers.
Prepare field layouts of routine jobs; such as staking, sketching, inventories, estimates, work request preparation and materials utilizing company work management and graphical design tools
Utilize company work management and graphical design tools to design, estimate and generate construction prints and work requests.
Schedule and coordinate work with other utilities or departments; obtain permits, prepare documentation and ensure timely coordination of necessary construction
Assist in field investigations and route selections
Confer with and work with right-of-way purchase agents
Oversee contract construction work and inspection
Perform and assist technical employees with, engineering duties in office.
Identify Capital Projects and submit for budgeting
Identifies opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods and gathers, correlates and analyzes specific data using established procedures.
Performs detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations, tests and analysis.
Prepares and presents reports, requiring self-analysis and recommendations, for related system reliability, compliance and/or engineering activities.
Identifies and manages Company and contract personnel, provides budget, accrual, and forecast data.
Supports operating and maintenance functions with engineering analysis, troubleshooting, problem identification, problem resolution activities.
Assist, as necessary, with storm response.
Performs other duties as directed by management.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: A.B.E.T accredited Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering and 0-3 years’ experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to use formal engineering training in practical applications.
Knowledge of electric distribution system, construction standards, materials and equipment. Above average interpersonal relations, communication, organizing and analytical skills and fully competent computer knowledge.
